The end of summer is just a few weeks away, but you wouldn’t know it by looking at Vancouver’s weather forecast for September.

Daily Hive chatted with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) meteorologist Matt Loney on how the September forecast for Metro Vancouver is shaping up.

According to Loney, models are diverging on what will happen for the region’s weather for the Labour Day long weekend.

“There’s an offshore upper low that appears to wobble inward towards Vancouver Island, and marine air may be pushed in,” said Loney. “The betting is that there will be a marine push of air to bring some relief this weekend.

“The ridge will reposition itself into the northeast Pacific and squeeze into the North Coast.”

According to the latest ECCC forecast, temperatures will hover at 23°C on Saturday, Aug. 30 and Sunday, Aug. 31. There is also a chance of showers on the latter day.

Things begin to clear up once again on Labour Day, and temperatures are set to rise in the first week of September.

Vancouver temperatures are set to reach 26°C on Tuesday and up to 28°C on Wednesday.

But temperatures inland are forecast to reach a high of 29°C on Tuesday and 31°C on Wednesday, with mostly blue skies in the forecast.

There might be an episode early next week for thundershowers or instability, but the ridge has potential to rebuild and continue a mostly dry streak,” added Loney. “Temperatures will be at normal or just above normal.

“Afterwards is a bit of a challenge, with some weather systems possibly coming in the second week.”

The daily average temperature for Vancouver in September is 15.2°C, with the average monthly rainfall for the region being 51.9 mm.

We’ve also put together a list of what’s open and closed for the holiday Monday, so make sure to plan ahead for the stat.
