Update: DriveBC has announced as of 11:42 a.m. that Highway 1 westbound has cleared between Highway 9 and Annis Road in Chilliwack, with all lanes reopened.
Those looking to get a head start on long weekend road trip plans may be delayed this morning due to a serious crash on Highway 1.
Traffic moved slowly through Chilliwack and the Fraser Valley on Friday morning due to a major crash involving a semi-truck that struck a guardrail.
DriveBC reported the incident at 7:38 a.m., stating that Highway 1 was closed in both directions east of Annis Road in Chilliwack due to a vehicle incident.
“Crews are on scene. Expect major delays in the area,” warned the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s official traveller information system.
⛔️UPDATE – Eastbound vehicles are being detoured via the Annis Rd off-ramp. Westbound vehicles are being detoured via #BCHwy9.

Details are limited but authorities are on the scene. Eastbound traffic through the accident area was detoured for about an hour off of Highway 1 via Highway 9 with the help of traffic control.
Traffic heading east on the provincial highway has since reopened, though westbound traffic remains closed as of press time.
Luckily, no injuries have been reported yet, but DriveBC is urging commuters to keep an eye out for traffic control.
So make sure to give yourself extra time to get to your destination if you’re driving through the Fraser Valley this morning.
