Several large-scale events will be held across Metro Vancouver this weekend, and commuters and residents are being warned of road closures to accommodate the festivities.
From massive outdoor comedy festivals to giant street parties and fundraising events, the second-to-last weekend of summer will be a busy one across the region.
To help you navigate Metro Vancouver smoothly this weekend, here are the events and street closures that commuters should be aware of. Have fun and stay safe!

The Great Outdoors Comedy Festival
Kicking things off is The Great Outdoors Comedy Festival in Stanley Park from Friday, Sept. 12 to Sunday, Sept. 14.
With huge headliners like John Mulaney, Bert Kreischer, Trailer Park Boys, and Tony Hinchcliffe also coming to Vancouver, it just may be one of the best days out you’ll have this year.
However, you’ll want to plan your arrival accordingly, as there are a number of road closures.

Bike the Night Vancouver is rolling back into town on Saturday with music, lights, prizes, and hundreds of riders cruising the seawall after dark.
Designed for people of all ages and experience levels, the event transforms the seawall into a glowing, music-filled route, accompanied by a community festival to kick off the two heats at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
The 10 km route begins and ends at David Lam Park, with hundreds of cyclists travelling on the seawall, on several downtown Vancouver streets, across the new Granville Connector, and into the South Granville neighbourhood, before connecting back to the seawall.

TransLink
On Sunday, Car Free Day is taking over Main Street from 10th Avenue to 30th Avenue for a celebration of connected, car-free communities.
The streets will be closed to all vehicle traffic for the family-friendly events and activities, including live music stages, kids’ activities, and more.
Make a day of it by inviting your friends to explore the variety of food vendors, local businesses, artisans, and non-profit organizations.

Terry Fox Foundation
Also happening on Sunday, Sept. 14, in cities across Metro Vancouver and British Columbia are annual Terry Fox Runs.
In 1980, the young athlete who had lost a leg to bone cancer embarked on his Marathon of Hope, aiming to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research.
Fox managed to run more than 5,000 km, from St. John’s, Nfld., to Thunder Bay, Ont., before his cancer returned. He tragically died at the age of 22 on June 28, 1981.
Although Fox’s Marathon of Hope was cut short, it went on to spark hundreds of runs in support of cancer research — that legacy continues today across Canada.
Road closures will be in place for the events across Metro Vancouver, so make sure to give yourself extra time if your commute crosses any of the routes this weekend.
A full list of Terry Fox Runs in the region can be found online.
