Vancouver’s ever-popular Car Free Day is returning this summer for two epic celebrations across the city.

The massive street festivals are presented by Car Free Vancouver Society as well as Translink, local municipalities, and BIAs to promote the growth of car-free culture and spaces.

Each year, thousands of attendees enjoy entertainment, food vendors and artisan booths, kids’ activities, and more. Best of all, the events are free to check out.

However, the event is seeking financial help from the community to keep operating.

Car Free Vancouver Society has launched a GoFundMe to help offset the operational costs of the annual events.

“It is no secret that in recent years, festivals like ours struggle to exist due to rising costs. We are not immune,” said the society on its fundraiser page. “As we envision our future, we know we need to ask for your help. Every donation and share is important. Please take some time to help support this festival.

“It is not in our spirit not to give back. Money raised will help with operational costs to execute the festival. however, that money will be allocated to free vendor space for Indigenous and low-income artisans.”

As of press time, the Car Free Day GoFundMe has raised $1,800 of a $12,000 goal.
