This morning, a huge fire in Vancouver has closed the major intersection of East Hastings and Nanaimo Street. Unfortunately, multiple stores in the area have been affected by the fire.
According to Matthew Trudeau, captain of public information at Vancouver Fire Rescue Services (VFRS), several local businesses were damaged by the fire, including Windsor Meats, The Indian Chefs Kitchen & Bar, and Wohlford & Company, formerly Dayton Boots.
“As many of you know, our Hastings Store block caught fire in the early hours of the morning,” shared Windsor Meats on Instagram. “Our amazing emergency services were on site to battle the glaze, and we are so grateful for their efforts. We do not know what this means for the store, but all of our staff are safe and well, and we are taking it a day at a time.”
Windsor Meats added that it would be closed until further notice, and asked those to support its other locations in Edgemont, Caulfeild, Mackenzie, and Steveston.
“Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this awful fire,” added Windsor.

Other businesses, although not directly affected by the fire, have also announced temporary closures while firefighters remain on the scene, with Doe Coffee being one of them.
“The police mentioned they’re not sure when the area will reopen, and it might take longer than expected,” said Doe Coffee. “So, for everyone’s safety, we’ve decided to close the store for the rest of the day.”

Another business in the area, The Green, offered its condolences to the affected businesses.
“As part of the Hastings Sunrise community, The Green deeply values local support. We would like to offer free sandwiches and beverages to all firefighters, police officers, and anyone involved in responding to the incident,” shared The Green.

As for when the fire started, Trudeau from VFRS told Daily Hive that they got the call just after 4 a.m. with reports of a structure on fire.

“We are still actively fighting the fire,” said Trudeau. “We had it knocked down, and the smoke built back up. Flames are still intermittent, which is to be expected.
“We have it contained, and crews are entering again. We haven’t had a rekindle.”
VFRS will update once the block has reopened.
