Following what they said was a “months-long” murder investigation that began in 2018, Vancouver Police said Wednesday that a 25-year-old woman has now been charged in connection with the case.

In a release, police said Shannon Watts has now been charged with one count of second-degree murder for the death of her 26-year-old common-law husband, Shane Tolmie.

According to VPD, the investigation began after officers were called to Watts’ apartment in the city’s Downtown Eastside on June 28 of last year.

Upon their arrival, officers found Tolmie inside the unit, suffering from a stab wound. He was taken to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Watts was arrested at the scene, but released from custody pending completion of the investigation and approval of the charge by Crown counsel.

On Wednesday, police announced that one count of second-degree murder has now been approved against her.
