Vancouver recognized as the 7th most visited city in North America

Welcoming around 4.56 million international visitors, Vancouver just ranked as one of the top destinations for North American travellers this year, according to Mastercard’s 2019 Global Destination Cities Index.

The Global Destination Cities Index looks at visitor volume and spend in the 200 largest cities in the world, and includes both vacation and business travellers in the previous year.

The annual list found that Vancouver was the 46th most visited city in the world and the 7th most visited city in North America.

According to the report, Vancouver’s international overnight arrivals stay an average of nine nights and spend an average of approximately $83 CAD a day.

The report also found that 93.6% of visitors were in town for leisure, while 6.4% were in the city for business.

The United States, Mainland China, and Australia were the top origin markets of international overnight arrivals in 2018.

Additionally, the report revealed Vancouver places eighth when it comes to overnight international visitor spending in North America, with $3.48 billion being spent in the last year.
