Vancouver lands major FIFA event taking place right before 2026 World Cup

The FIFA Congress is coming to Vancouver in 2026.
This is one of the major events organized by FIFA, the ruling body for international soccer. The Vancouver Convention Centre will be the host venue for the event, which brings together representatives from 211 nations to discuss relevant topics in the game.
“This is another win for our city as we continue to lead the way in hosting world-class events across sports, culture, tech, and business,” Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim said on social media. “We’re expecting 1,600 delegates and $5 million in local economic impact from this event alone. Can’t wait to welcome the world to Vancouver!”
Some of the main talking points at the Vancouver edition of the event will include picking the host cities for the 2031 and 2035 Women’s World Cups. There will also surely be much discussion about the impending men’s World Cup being held in Mexico, the United States, and Canada later that summer.

The FIFA Congress will take place on April 30, 2026, just 42 days before the 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off in June. Vancouver is hosting seven matches for the tournament, including two group stage games featuring the Canadian national team.
Beyond the administrative tasks, the FIFA Congress is also a celebration of soccer, and different activations will be held around the city. Expect different pop-ups around Vancouver while the congress is ongoing.
The FIFA Congress was first held in 1904, and this will be just the second time it’s been hosted in Canada. The first was in 1976, when it was held in Montreal.
“It is with great pleasure that we welcome FIFA to the vibrant city of Vancouver for the FIFA 76th Congress. Vancouver, known for its stunning landscapes and diverse culture, provides the perfect backdrop to celebrate the spirit of unity, collaboration and the beautiful game that brings us all together,” said Canada Soccer president Peter Augruso.
“Canada Soccer looks forward to hosting the 76th FIFA Congress and World Cup in 2026! Welcome to Canada, where everyone is welcome!”

The event should help get soccer fans in the city even more excited for the impending World Cup. Premium ticket packages for games hosted in the United States are already on sale, and similar options for Canadian games including those in Vancouver will be sold soon.
