Vancouver Half Marathon will lead to major road closures today

Jun 22 2025, 10:00 am

Vancouver Half Marathon closures will impact west-side traffic on Sunday morning as thousands take to the streets for the sold-out race.

The City of Vancouver is warning drivers that roads will be closed across Kitsilano and the University of British Columbia (UBC) area for the Vancouver Half Marathon today from 4 to 11 a.m.

More than 5,000 runners will take part in the 21K race, which starts at 7:30 a.m. on NW Marine Drive, just south of Agronomy Road.

The race ends at the Museum of Vancouver, passing through popular seaside routes and residential streets.

A 5K race also kicks off at 9:45 a.m. at UBC and will follow its own course in the area.

Together, the races are expected to cause traffic delays, parking restrictions, and transit reroutes during peak Sunday hours.

Expect closures on:

  • NW Marine Drive
  • Chancellor Boulevard
  • West 4th
  • Blanca Street
  • Cornwall Avenue

Here’s what to expect:

  • Road closures are in place from 4 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Areas impacted include: NW Marine Drive, Chancellor Blvd, West 4th, Cornwall Ave, and sections around Spanish Banks, Jericho Beach, and UBC.
  • Transit delays and parking restrictions along the course
  • Water and aid stations every 3 km, including toilets and GU energy gels
  • Accessible lactation stations, medical tents, and adaptive athlete support

The race features ASICS pace teams, a new wheelchair category, and eco-friendly ā€œImpact Bibsā€ supporting sustainability charities.

And if Kitsilano feels extra busy this weekend, that’s because it is.

Greek Day on Broadway is also happening Sunday, bringing its own street closures, music, and food to the neighbourhood from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The City of Vancouver is advising the public that W. Broadway will be closed on June 22 to Blenheim Street (including side streets to alleys – Mackenzie, Bayswater, Carnarvon, Balaclava, Å”xŹ·məθkŹ·É™y̓əmasəm Musqueamview).

The road closures will be in place for the majority of the day, starting at 5 a.m. and ending at 11:30 p.m.
