Vancouver temperatures spiking for the weekend, but could relief be coming?
The first full week of August has been a hot one, and the Vancouver forecast for the weekend ahead isn’t looking any cooler.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), temperatures spike for the next 48 hours, reaching up to 33°C inland on Friday and up to 33°C inland on Saturday with the humidex. There will also be a UV index of seven or higher.
But those living in the eastern parts of Metro Vancouver as well as the Fraser Valley may see some relief soon.

While ECCC is forecasting temperatures to hover around seasonal averages for much of the week ahead, it isn’t calling for inland temperatures to jump or increase due to the humidex as of publication time.
The ECCC explained online that the humidex is a tool that combines the air temperature and relative humidity into a perceived temperature that illustrates how hot, humid weather can feel to an average person.
It added that a humidex reading can help people make informed decisions about outdoor activities and heat-related health risks before venturing outside.
Closer to the water, be sure to stay hydrated as temperatures in the Vancouver forecast will hover between 22°C and 24°C for the next seven days.
Several days will have a mix of sun and clouds, as well as some overnight cloudy periods.

The air quality in Vancouver continues to rank poorly among the world’s major cities, and the Metro Vancouver Regional District (MVRD) has an ongoing warning for residents.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) reissued MVRD’s warning on the morning of Friday, Aug. 7.
The warning applies to the MVRD areas of Vancouver, Burnaby, New West, the North Shore, the Tri-Cities, Pitt Meadows, and Maple Ridge.

Surrey, Langley, and White Rock are also covered by the warning and in the Fraser Valley, the warning applies to Abbotsford and Mission.
According to ECCC and MVRD, the warning is a result of elevated fine particulate matter and ground-level ozone (a.k.a. smog).
The warning states that conditions may last “until there is a change in weather.”
