Vancouver roads closing for street festivals and half marathon this weekend

You’ll want to give yourself some extra time if you’re commuting in Vancouver this weekend, as several major roads will be closed for street festivals and a half-marathon.
Kicking things off on Saturday, Aug. 8, is the Pleasant Day Festival, taking place from noon to 8 p.m. along Main Street from 16th Avenue to King Edward.
A full road closure of the stretch of Main Street will begin earlier in the morning and stretch late into the evening.
A number of side roads will also be closed for events and activities scheduled for the annual event presented by the Mount Pleasant Business Improvement Area (MPBIA).

Mount Pleasant BIA
Music fans will discover several stages showcasing talented local rising stars.
You can stay refreshed at the five extended neighbourhood beer gardens at this year’s festival presented by the MPBIA.

Light Up Chinatown!
Light Up Chinatown! is returning for its sixth year on Aug. 8 and 9, taking over the Vancouver neighbourhood with plenty of exclusive food collaborations, live performances, local vendors, and community programs.
The festival, which started as a way to support local businesses in the area, has been known to draw over 20,000 visitors during its two-day run.
Vancouver road closures will be in effect for the 500 block of Columbia Street. Light Up Chinatown! will also utilize Memorial Monument Square.

lululemon
Some 10,000 runners are expected to take part in the Lululemon SeaWheeze Half-Marathon this Saturday, Aug. 8, and there will be several traffic closures as a result.
The race starts at 7 a.m. on Hastings Street at Hornby Street, and finishes at 12:30 p.m. in Coal Harbour at Pender Street at Bute Street near the Vancouver Convention Centre.
Race organizers are warning that the SeaWheeze will cause traffic delays throughout early morning and into the afternoon in the downtown core, on the Burrard Bridges, in Chinatown, and on streets on the north and south shores of False Creek.
A full list of road closures and times can be found online.
