Weeks has held frontline, officer and executive leadership roles during his career with VFRS, including most recently being the deputy fire chief.
His experience includes leading training, recruitment, labour relations, occupational health, and safety, and more.
“Robert is a highly respected leader who brings extensive experience, sound judgment and integrity to this important role,” said Donny van Dyk, city manager, in a statement.

Vancouver Fire Fighters also shared congratulations to Weeks on his new position with the organization.
“Vancouver is getting a chief who knows this work, knows our members, and respects the people on the front line,” said VFRS on social media. “There’s a lot of work ahead, and many problems to solve, but we are confident we can do that work together.
“Congratulations, Chief Weeks. We’re proud of you, Brother.”
Weeks will take over for Karen Fry, the city’s first-ever female fire chief, who held the position from 2020 to 2026.
The City of Vancouver also thanked Interim Fire Chief Trevor Connelly for his time leading VFRS throughout the transition period.
