RCMP officers around B.C. will be sporting a new look soon as part of a modernization of the force’s operational uniforms.

The rollout has already begun, according to a release from the RCMP. New navy-blue uniform shirts are seeing a phased introduction across the province.

The new navy blue shirts replace the traditional grey uniform shirts.

B.C. officers are following a national rollout that began back in the spring of 2025.

RCMP says the rollout “has been extending on a province-by-province basis over the last 12 months, with shirts becoming available to officers as part of the scheduled national distribution plan.”

RCMP says that members of the public might still see RCMP officers wearing the old grey uniform shirts. It adds that both uniforms are still official RCMP attire, and that the grey shirts and navy-blue shirts may be seen in tandem for the foreseeable future.

Other teams, like the Emergency Response Team, the Uniform Gang Enforcement Team, or the Underwater Recovery Team, will still wear their current unit-specific uniforms “or plain clothes as required.”

In its release, the RCMP acknowledges that the uniform changes might lead to questions from the public.

“While there have been recent incidents involving individuals impersonating police officers, the RCMP encourages anyone with concerns about an officer’s identity to ask for official identification,” BC RCMP said.

The new uniform shirts are part of the RCMP’s ongoing efforts to modernize its uniform while maintaining the professionalism and public trust that Canadians expect from their national police service.
