Historic Vancouver neighbourhood suddenly transformed into winter wonderland
Vancouver’s oldest neighbourhood was taken over by filming this past weekend, and locals and visitors got an early blast of winter in the process.
Gastown was transformed into a holiday scene straight out of a Hallmark movie on Sunday night for a commercial shoot.
Passersby, residents, and workers in the neighbourhood stopped to see the action unfold on Water Street, with many shocked to see holiday decorations on trees and snow on the ground.

According to a crew member on-site for the shoot, filming was being conducted for a commercial.
When asked if it was for a vehicle commercial, the crew member added, “That would be a pretty good guess.”

The main attraction was a Cadillac Optiq, which was filmed multiple times driving up and down Water Street and Abbott Street.
In between takes, onlookers snapped selfies and photos of the giant Christmas wreaths and lights wrapped around trees.

Snow was also strategically placed on the sidewalks, which garnered lots of photos on one of the last days of summer.
“This is so cool,” said a couple walking past the filming near the Lamplighter Public House.
The weekend commercial shoot in Gastown is a reminder that the most wonderful time of the year is just around the corner, and Vancouver’s largest and longest-running Christmas Market has announced its return this holiday season.
Vancouver Christmas Market is transforming Jack Poole Plaza into a huge German-style holiday event from Monday, Nov. 16, to Thursday, Dec. 24.
A popular holiday tradition for locals and visitors alike, the market features dozens of food and drink vendors, as well as plenty of artisans and makers at over 90 wooden huts.
The region has been busy with filming this year, with parts of downtown New Westminster recently taken over by a massive set for The Last of Us.
Vancouver filming for Season 3 of the hit HBO Max series is happening until the end of November, with a shoot earlier this spring taking place on Front Street beneath the New West Parkade.
