Neil Young

What: Canadian music legend Neil Young is playing a special solo show in Vancouver next month at a venue that has serious significance in the musician’s storied career. Young returns to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on May 15, with very special guest Elvis Costello. The theatre is where the award-winning artist had his first-ever solo live performance in the city, in 1971 — 47 years ago.

Clothing swaps at Lupii Cafe

What: A community swap is being held in South Vancouver, where participants are encouraged to bring quality, gently worn items to give away. All ages, eras, sizes and styles of clothes will be accepted, as long as they are clean, in good condition and likely to be valued by others. You need to bring at least five items to participate. That includes women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, costumes, shoes, accessories and jewelry. They are also accepting craft supplies, linens, kid’s toys, adult and children’s books, as well as small houseware items.

Christy Dunsmore Nature + Nurture Opening Reception Night

What: Join local artist and writer Christy Dunsmore for her opening night reception of Nature + Nurture, a multimedia exhibition.

What: The film explores the rich natural ecosystem of the remote Great Bear Rainforest on the central coast of British Columbia. The Planet Earth-like production is the first giant screen film for IMAX theatres shot exclusively in the province, and it features Vancouver-born actor Ryan Reynolds as its narrator.

Yann Tiersen

What: French musician and composer Yann Tiersen performs at the Vogue Theatre in support of his new album, ALL. Featuring special guests.

Chinatown Through a Wide Lens: The Hidden Photos of Yucho Chow

What: An exhibition of the once-hidden photographs of Vancouver’s first Chinese photographer. Yucho Chow chronicled life during a tumultuous period in the city’s early history.

When: Tuesdays to Sundays until May 30, 2019
Time: 11 am to 5 pm
Where: Chinese Cultural Centre (Museum & Archives) – 2nd floor, 555 Columbia St

Strathcona Native Plant Garden Tour

What: Drop-in tour of the Native Plant Demonstration Garden with Environmental Youth Alliance’s Jess Henry and see how you can develop your own habitat garden. Native plants provide important habitat for insect-eating birds and contribute to Vancouver’s ecological network. Native plants will be available to take home, by donation. Part of Vancouver Bird Week.
