The Museum of Anthropology at night (MOA)

What: Over 250 puppets, old and new, from 15 countries, are illuminated in MOA’s new exhibition. From graceful Vietnamese water puppets and comical British hand puppets to the captivating stop-motion puppet animation of the award-winning Indigenous artist Amanda Strong—the full spectrum of human resilience and creativity is on display. With a focus on Asia, Europe and the Americas, the exhibition draws from MOA’s stunning international collection of puppets—the largest in Western Canada­—and reveals new acquisitions from China, Brazil, Sicily, Java, the UK and France.

blackbear

What: Singer, songwriter, and producer blackbear will be performing live at Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre on May 16 with his Dead to the World Tour. He will be joined by guests, electropop DJ and producer, Elohim, and hip-hop artist, Gashi. Since emerging in 2012, blackbear has released alt-R&B albums Deadroses, Digital Druglord, and Cybersex, each extolling the pleasures of sex, drugs, and luxury consumerism.

National Life Jacket Day

What: Learn everything about water safety, boating safety and how life jackets save lives with free crafts, activities and life jacket fittings. Activities will be held in the lobby and outdoor patio of the Newton Recreation Centre. All ages are welcome to attend this free event.

Walk Richmond – Railway Greenway Trail

What: Take in this multi-use cycling and walking trail that connects several neighbourhoods to the Fraser River Middle Arm and South Dyke/Steveston waterfronts. Meeting spot: Parking lot at the south end of Railway Avenue and Westwater Drive.

2019 Stars on Ice Tour 

What: Enjoy some of Canada and the world’s best skaters during the 2019 Stars on Ice Tour, including Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford, Patrick Chan, Kaetlyn Osmond, Elvis Stojko, and more. Plus an opportunity for a meet and greet as well.

Richmond Country Farms

What: Family-owned and operated for nearly 40 years, Richmond Country Farms is the farm stand adjacent to Highway 99 off Steveston. Open from early spring to just ahead of Christmas, the market has a bounty of fresh local produce and prepared goods.

When: Open Thursdays to Sundays until December 2019

National Caesar day at Notch8 at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver

What: On National Caesar day (May 16), Notch8 at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver will be offering The Anniversary Caesar. This huge 3oz drink comes with a BIG serving of food, including a chorizo and roast garlic calzone, a deep-fried clam “po’boy” smothered in tomato sauce, two smokey BBQ pork sliders, two Alberta Beef prime rib-stuffed Yorkshire puddings, and two fried chicken skewers to the cocktail.

Patrons can also expect a skewer of pickled vegetables and celery sticks with this creation, which is made with Mott’s Clamato juice and topped with lime wedges. The Anniversary Caesar is meant for two and will run you $99, it’s only offered on May 16 so be sure to get it while you can!
