15th Anniversary: PuSh International Performing Arts Festival 2019

What: The PuSh International Performing Arts Festival is Vancouver’s signature mid-winter cultural event. The PuSh Festival presents audiences with groundbreaking, contemporary works of theatre, dance, music, and multimedia, by acclaimed local, national, and international artists. This year’s PuSh Festival will showcase 26 works from 24 companies from 13 countries – including six world premieres.

Port Moody Winter Farmers’ Market

What: Established in 2008, the Port Moody Winter Farmers Market began as a bi-weekly market in the lobby and courtyard of the Port Moody Rec Centre. Now a weekly market, shoppers can stop by every Sunday for local BC produce, artisan crafts, and delicious baked goods.

Guo Pei: Couture Beyond Exhibition

What: Renowned for combining China’s rich aesthetic tradition with modern sensibilities, the exhibition will showcase more than 40 of Guo Pei’s breathtaking designs, including opulent avant-garde silhouettes. Couture Beyond looks at the the evolution of Guo Pei’s designs over 10 years, beginning with examples from her early collections, Samsara (2006), An Amazing Journey in a Childhood Dream (2008) and 1002 Nights (2010), with a lively installation in the Gallery’s rotunda of the collection from her 2015 MAC Cosmetics collaboration.

Family Day at PdA

What: Start your afternoon with a self-guided tour of PDA’s new exhibitions: alcohol inks by Francis Friesen in A Celebration of Colour and Abstraction, photography by Fiona Howarth in And then there were none and paintings by Janet Strayer in FLOW: Nature, Art and Mind. Then, participate in three drop-in style art activities based on the subject matter and mediums of the exhibitions to make your very own masterpieces.

Lights at Lafarge Lake

What: Lights at Lafarge Lake is one of the largest free light displays in Metro Vancouver, and features more than 100,000 twinkling lights. The outdoor display wraps its way entirely around the lake, leading visitors on a 1.2-km loop through 10 themed zones. The display is located just steps from SkyTrain’s Lafarge Lake-Douglas Station, and the lights will remain on from dusk each night until 11 pm.

Hastings Park Farmers’ Market

Port Moody Farmers’ Market – Macrame Workshop

What: Curious about macrame or looking to learn a new skill? Instructor Emily Cheadle will lead the class through an intro to the art of macrame. Participants will complete a potted plant holder to take home.

Marginal Consort

What: These four musicians come with enough instruments for an orchestra; some are acoustic, some are electronic, and quite a few are of the artists’ own invention. For three hours they make ambient, heavily manipulated music, far apart and fully independent of each other. It’s a sonic adventure, with the audience as liberated as the performers. Listeners are free to sit, lie down or move around as they see fit—in fact, changes in position are encouraged, because different positions in the space can bring radically different experiences.
