Take the little ones to Kiddieland, with children-only rides that are perfect for first-time carnival goers. Parents can take their kids down the Super Slide or ride Choo Choo Charlie. Enjoy mini donuts, candy apples and cotton candy. If you get dizzy from all the crazy rides, try your hand at one of the many carnival games that are on offer. From classic ring toss to a water gun race, you’ve got plenty of chances to walk away with a prize.

Disco Dumplings at Burdock & Co

What: This weekly series features a savoury dumpling menu, DJ Chris Allen spinning vinyl, and a flashy disco ball setting the mood. Plates are $10 and guests can choose from an assortment of decadent dumplings including nettle and ricotta with wild greens and pork and burdock with charred chili sauce.

What: Grouse Mountain has opened their new Mountain Ropes Adventure, which is poised to be an adventure that you’ll want to try ASAP. Consisting of a series of four aerial ropes courses with varying degrees of difficulty, you’ll be climbing, swinging, and zipping, your way right to the finish line! With over 50 different elements throughout the courses including suspended bridges, swings, tunnels, zip lines and more, you’ll be having so much fun you’ll completely forget about any fear of heights you may have. The Mountain Ropes Adventure is suitable for those aged eight and over. However, if little ones want the chance to play, head over to the Kids Tree Canopy Adventure, a fully contained activity zone for ages three to eight.

Ex Machina

What: Standing Wave presents Ex Machina, an avant-garde musical journey. What: Canadian music legend Neil Young is playing a special solo show in Vancouver next month at a venue that has serious significance in the musician’s storied career. Young returns to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on May 15, with very special guest Elvis Costello. The theatre is where the award-winning artist had his first-ever solo live performance in the city, in 1971 — 47 years ago.

Clothing swaps at Lupii Cafe

What: A community swap is being held in South Vancouver, where participants are encouraged to bring quality, gently worn items to give away. All ages, eras, sizes and styles of clothes will be accepted, as long as they are clean, in good condition and likely to be valued by others. You need to bring at least five items to participate. That includes women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, costumes, shoes, accessories and jewelry. They are also accepting craft supplies, linens, kid’s toys, adult and children’s books, as well as small houseware items.

What: On National Caesar day (May 16), Notch8 at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver will be offering The Anniversary Caesar. This huge 3oz drink comes with a BIG serving of food, including a chorizo and roast garlic calzone, a deep-fried clam “po’boy” smothered in tomato sauce, two smokey BBQ pork sliders, two Alberta Beef prime rib-stuffed Yorkshire puddings, and two fried chicken skewers to the cocktail.
