It’s rare to go a day in Vancouver without seeing someone wearing a pair of Vans. The footwear and apparel brand is known for being effortlessly cool, and that’s what we love about it.
Taking place at the Harbour Convention Centre, the densely-packed, four-day celebration is somewhere that you can let your imagination loose and find creative inspiration around every corner.
As a cultural hub, House of Vans has permanent locations in New York, Chicago, Illinois, and London, with pop-ups visiting cities around the world. These locations bring Vans’ pillars of action sports, music, art, and street culture, to life.
Now for the first time in Vancouver, you can enjoy skating at a custom indoor skatepark designed in partnership with the skateboard community, listen to live music, check out art installations, join a workshop, play games (ring toss, anyone?), and much more.
The best part? It’s completely free to attend each day of the all-ages event. Here’s a look at the can’t-miss lineup.
Head straight to the House of Vans from work or school for an unforgettable evening. Running from 4 to 11 pm, you can bring the kids with you to join an open skate and see some of the city’s local skateboarding talent.
Check out the ROCK SOLID opening vernissage, the Street Market, and a wide selection of game-changing workshops. There’s also going to be a Good Neighbours Canadian video retrospective and live music sessions with local bands and DJs.
The second day of Vancouver’s House of Vans pop-up starts at 1 pm and runs right through until midnight. Take part in the open skate, explore artisanal goods at the city’s Street Market, or join a fun workshop with your pals. You won’t want to miss the “Best Trick” contest during which you’ll see skateboarding pros show off their skills on the ramps.
Check out the Good Neighbours Canadian video retrospective, Instagram-worthy art installations, and dance to your heart’s content at the live music session.
Get on your skateboard early for the House of Vans weekend events which start at 10 am and run until midnight on Saturday, and 10 pm on Sunday. There’s going to be a Get on Board girls skate clinic, Skate Skool workshop and BMX-only free-ride sessions, as well as a timeslot for open skate.
Sample local food and drinks at the Street Market, check out the all-day art installations, and if you missed the Good Neighbours Canadian video retrospective, it will also be shown on both days at the weekend.
When it comes to live music sessions, you’ll have the chance to see local bands and DJs, as well as headlining acts. The headliners for Saturday will be John Maus and Canadian hip-hop duo 88GLAM, and on Sunday, The Bunt Live featuring a special guest will wrap up the festivities with a live broadcast of their weekly podcast.
Celebrate Vancouver’s rich history in skateboarding at the House of Vans pop-up or feel the effects of FOMO for months (don’t say we didn’t pre-warn you).
