Just For Laughs Vancouver

Just For Laughs Vancouver
What: Western Canada’s biggest comedy festival is returning to Vancouver this February, and it’s heating up the winter season with a scorching lineup of stars.
The ninth annual Just For Laughs Vancouver will take place from February 13 to 23. Fans of all things funny will have lots to enjoy over the 10 hilarious days, including star-powered stand-up, podcasts, improv and sketch, and more.
Some of the stars include Silicon Valley and The Big Sick star Kumail Nanjiani, Fire Island and Drop Dead Diva star Margaret Cho, and The Daily Show’s Roy Wood Jr.

Family Day at Vancouver Maritime Museum
What: The Vancouver Maritime Museum is celebrating Family Day by offering free admission on February 17. The event features family-friendly activities, a meet and greet with members of the Canadian Coast Guard, storytelling, singer and stilt walker Peter G-G, food trucks, and more.

Burlesque Duos at the Rio Theatre
What: Burlesque Duos is an annual East Vancouver Valentine’s Day tradition that celebrates partnership and creativity on the day of love. The event pairs up renowned burlesque dancers to perform memorable duets at the Rio Theatre.
Starring Gigi LaVande and Honey Bee, April O’Peel and Homo Hardware, Diva the Violet Femme and Miss Kiss, and Vita Devour and Arabella Boop. Hosted by Ella Lamoureux and Gia Sangria.

Abbotsford Canucks
What: The Abbotsford Canucks continue their AHL campaign this month, with home games including visitors San Diego Gulls on February 11 and 12, and Colorado Eagles on February 15 and 17.

Tin Soldier Time Capsule Opening

City of New Westminster
What: The World’s Tallest Tin Soldier in New Westminster has been keeping a secret for over 20 years, and it will soon be revealed during a public celebration.
There will be a free hot beverage station, children’s activities, and a live reading of the book Tall Tale: The True Story of the World’s Largest Tin Soldier by author Tiffany Stone. Kwantlen artist Brandon Gabriel will transform the soldier into the World’s Largest Coast Salish Welcome Pole with a projection when the sun sets.
Items discovered inside the time capsule will be displayed inside the Fraser River Discovery Centre until 8 pm.

Stanley Park Owl Prowl
What: Join wildlife photographer and SPES Nature House Educator Frank Lin for a night to hoot about. A presentation on natural history and identifying owls of Metro Vancouver, followed by a walk in the park after dark to look for them using owl survey techniques. Make sure to bring a flashlight.

Britannia Mine Museum – Ores & Orcas
What: Britannia Mine Museum hosts Ores & Orcas – Howe Sound /Átl’ḵa7tsem: A Recovering Ecosystem until February 2025. Guests will be able to explore how copper contamination impacted the marine food chain from plankton to predators and discover how remediation efforts protect the important ecosystem.
The temporary exhibit also showcases specimens from the Howe Sound ecosystem, including the skeleton of a real killer whale.

Winterlust at H Tasting Lounge

H Tasting Lounge
What: H Tasting Lounge’s enchanting winter patio is officially back in action, with its special heated Alpine-inspired domes decked out with cozy decor for the occasion.
Each dome can accommodate up to six guests and is fully equipped with heaters and fresh-air circulation to keep things nice and cozy. Additionally, each dome has an independent sound system so you can enjoy your own tunes while dining.
When it comes to food, diners can expect many gourmet options. Think chili-caramel pork belly with fresh herb and togarashi sesame-cashew crunch, and certified Angus beef tomahawks accompanied with red wine jus, confit fingerling potatoes, sauteed garlic mushrooms, and five-spice roasted root vegetables.
You can also enjoy a choice of four premium caviar services, each complete with sour cream blinis and creme fraiche and a showstopping chilled seafood tower with an assortment of Dungeness crab legs, poached tiger prawns, Manila clams, Salt Spring Island mussels, smoked salmon candy, albacore tuna tartare, and so much more.

Sinners
What: Metro Theatre presents Sinners by Canadian playwright Norm Foster. The play tells the story of a furniture store owner having an affair with the local minister’s wife. The complication arises when the minister arrives home unannounced, and soon, the local police, parishioners, and the women’s auxiliary are swept up in the chaos.

Robson Square Ice Rink
What: Calling all whimsical winter lovers! The Robson Square Ice Rink is open for the new skating season and all ages are invited to hit the ice.
Located under the covered outdoor plaza at Robson Square, the rink operates seasonally when temperatures begin to dip. Skating is free, and those without skates can rent them on-site for a fee. Helmets are mandatory for anyone under the age of 12.
The downtown Vancouver wintry tradition will operate until the end of February.

Big Bang Festival
What: Music on Main, Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre and Zonzo Compagnie are teaming up for the inaugural Big Bang Festival, a day of musical adventure for children ages five and up.

Otosan

Otosan (Chelsey Stuyt)
What: Otosan tells the tale of Shizu, who hides in her Otosan’s suitcase as he travels to the north. The dangerous environment is filled with white wolves, grizzly bears and snowy owls, and she and her father must learn to face the challenges together while discovering how to communicate their love. Otosan features puppetry, real wildlife projections, and an original score. It is suitable for ages 4+ and is deaf and hard-of-hearing friendly.

LunarFest 2025 – Year of the Snake
What: Celebrate the Year of the Snake with LunarFest and discover the many stories of the snake through The Lantern City.
Guests are invited to take a walk through five different locations in downtown Vancouver and on Granville Island to see 36 lanterns created by artists of diverse cultural backgrounds
Then head back to Granville Island every weekend from February 1 to 16 for an artist market, crafts workshops, food, games, and more at Ocean Artworks. Each weekend has a different lineup of artisans, and it is free for all ages to enter.

Family Day at the Love Farmhouse at Burnaby Village Museum
What: Burnaby Village Museum invites guests to go back in time and explore the Love farmhouse, one of Burnaby’s oldest surviving buildings that dates back to 1893.
