What: The Khalsa Diwan Society Vaisakhi Nagar Kirtan is happening on Saturday, April 12, with huge floats, community performers, live music, and delicious food.

Khalsa Diwan Society encourages “all walks of life” to come together with the community. Last year saw a huge crowd of an estimated 200,000 Vaisakhi celebrants.

Crumby Comedy

What: Crumby Comedy can be found every Monday at Portland Craft on Main Street and has been featured at Just For Laughs Vancouver. Check out the city’s up-and-coming talent, touring stars, and more at this weekly event. There will also be a Rapid Fire Comedy segment where new comedians perform two minutes of stand-up while enduring sound effects and heckling via a bullhorn.

Capture Photography Festival

What: A free, month-long photography festival featuring dozens of free events returns to Metro Vancouver in April. This year’s Capture Photography Festival events include gallery exhibitions, public art installations, photo walks, and more across the region.

What: The World Ski & Snowboard Festival (WSSF) is taking over Whistler from April 7 to 13. Athletes from around the world will be at WSSF, joined by hundreds of spectators to watch the competitions and take part in the festivities.

The massive mountainside celebration has something for everyone to enjoy, including free outdoor concerts with some big artists like Swollen Members and Ruby Waters.

Those looking for the ultimate mountainside après party can check out the Double Denim Après at The Longhorn Saloon hosted by DUER on April 11. Enjoy giveaways, a gift for the first 100 guests in double denim, and a live DJ from 2 to 6 p.m.

Visitors can also check out a cozy chalet experience at the Whistler Conference Centre from April 7 to 9, shop a curated collection of men’s and women’s styles, and visit the Duer booth on the village stroll from April 10 to 13.

Music on Main’s A Month of Tuesdays

What: Music on Main’s A Month of Tuesdays is a weekly concert series coming to The Fox Cabaret this April.

A veritable playground of music variety, the series features everything from classical influences to improvisations. This year’s series features performances by Dálava, Eve Egoyan, Chloe Kim and a concert showcasing the music of Alfredo Santa An.

Queen of the Ring

What: Vancouver’s star Emily Bett Rickards (Arrow, Calamity Jane) stars as Mildred Burke in Queen of the Ring from Ash Avildsen (son of Rocky director John G Avildsen).

Burke is heralded as the first million-dollar female athlete, winning world championships in the 1930s and ’40s, which was a time period when women’s wrestling was illegal in many places. Catch all the action for a limited time at VIFF.

What: The Botanica Tulip Festival is returning to Chilliwack in mid-April, with nearly two million bulbs ready to bloom throughout the season.

Botanica is a floral experience that stretches across 14 acres in the Fraser Valley. Flower fans can check it out on the tentative opening date of April 11.

What: The largest university music festival in Western Canada is coming to UBC in April, and it’s a perfect way to celebrate the last of classes this spring.

AMS Events, the events department of UBC’s student association, is hosting the 17th annual Block Party with acclaimed headliner Steve Aoki and more to be announced. The 19+ event will also feature food trucks, drinks, giveaways, and fun games to keep the party vibes going.

What: The Brewhalla Beer and Music Festival series is hosting two huge events this spring.

First up is North Vancouver at the Shipyards on Friday, April 11, followed by Fort Langley Park on Saturday, May 17.

At each festival, there will be more than 60 drinks from local favourites like Dageraad, Backcountry Brewing, Trading Post Brewing Co., and Dead Frog Brewery.

The events will also bring food trucks and other refreshments, like local cider, kombucha, seltzer, and wine. Festival-goers can also expect some fun activities like lawn games and beer pong.

Anand: The Art of Balance

What: SHBC’s flagship art exhibition explores the balance found in Sikh life, including the ones between life and death, desire and restraint, and light and darkness.

The free event runs from 2 to 8 p.m., with a special finale session with the artists starting at 6 p.m.

Terry Fox: Inspiring Local Champions Exhibit

What: The City of Port Coquitlam hosts the opening of the “Terry Fox: Inspiring Local Champions” exhibit on April 12, which also marks the 45th anniversary of the commencement of the Marathon of Hope.

The event will take place at the  Port Coquitlam Community Centre (PCCC) in collaboration with the Fox family. It will feature historically important artifacts connected to Terry, including his spare prosthetic leg, an Addidas running shoe, and a Marathon of Hope t-shirt. Visitors will also be able to get up close with items from his high school years.

Orpheum Tours by Vancouver Civic Theatres

What: Get your cameras ready, because you can explore one of Vancouver’s most beautiful concert halls this spring.

Built in 1927, the Orpheum has hosted thousands of international musicians and live events. It is also home to the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

The building was designed by world-renowned architect Marcus Priteca, who designed 220 theatres across the continent during the era. The Orpheum is considered one of his most treasured projects.

The Story of Taylor Swift

What: A show detailing the story of Taylor Swift is coming to Metro Vancouver this month, and it’s surely something Swifties won’t want to miss.

The show, named The Story of Taylor Swift, will be at the auditorium on February 28 and promises to take viewers on a journey through the incredible rise of Taylor Swift, from her early days as a self-made artist writing songs in her bedroom to becoming one of the most influential women in music.

Charity Eden will play Swift in the show, which will feature some of the “Karma” singer’s biggest hits, along with the stories behind the songs.

Swimming alongside your favourite sea creatures will be Scuba Bunny, a curious creature that appears every Easter.

You can catch him on his magical daily dives, along with a host of other fun-filled activities during Vancouver Aquarium’s spring break event.
