Burnaby Central Railway

What: Burnaby Central Railway is welcoming passengers to climb aboard its 3 km track near Confederation Park every weekend until this fall. Your ride will take you across tunnels, bridges and viaducts. And while you’re there, stop by the ever-growing Garden Railway.

British Columbia Society of Model Engineers (BCSME) built and operates the mini railway, with three different types of locomotives pulling the ridable trains.

What: The largest Vaisakhi parade in the world will take place in Surrey next month, and organizers expect to draw a massive crowd for the festivities.

Surrey Khalsa Day Vaisakhi Parade, organized by Gurdwara Sahib Dasmesh Darbar, will take place on Saturday, April 19. Over 500,000 people are expected to attend the parade, which will include a variety of floats, live music and dancers, and community groups.

Easter on the Peak

What: Grouse Mountain is hosting an epic Easter celebration which includes crafts in the “Bunny Burrow,” Easter film screenings in The Theatre in the Sky, photos with the Easter Bunny, and even an egg hunt at the Light Walk. All activities are included with a Mountain Admission Ticket, Lift Ticket, or a valid Grouse Mountain Pass.

Child mountain admission and ski lift tickets are just $10 from April 18 to 21, with $5 from every child ticket sold donated to Family Services of the North Shore.

What: Bear Creek Park Train presents its annual Easter Train in Surrey throughout April. Put on your bunny ears and hop aboard Eddy The Engine for a magical ride at one of the city’s most popular parks.

After your Easter Train ride, children of all ages can enjoy arts and crafts, go on a decorated forest tour, and take part in an egg hunt.

What: Dragon boat racers and fans are taking to the waters of the Burrard Inlet this weekend for Canada’s first dragon boat event of 2025.

The sixth annual Inlet Spring Regatta will be held on Saturday, April 19, at Rocky Point Park in Port Moody.

This year’s family-friendly event features dozens of teams competing in several divisions. The Regatta will also feature plenty of activities and entertainment for all ages.

What: Canada’s largest alternative literary festival, Verses Festival of Words, is back for a 15th year of programming celebrating a broad intersection of poetic artists, including spoken word and page poets, storytellers, singer-songwriters, improvisers, and more.

Highlights of this year’s Verses include Mashed Poetics: “Fully, Completely” by The Tragically Hip, the Canadian Individual Poetry Slam, and Hullabaloo, a youth poetry slam competition for high school students across the province.
