T’is the season to be jolly, Vancouver!

If you’re like us, and you’ve been counting down the days until Christmas since last December, you’ll definitely want to check out our list of local holiday concerts that’ll have you singing “Fa la la la laaaa”.

From a celebration with the Vancouver Men’s Chorus to a sing-a-long with Juno Award-winning superstar Jann Arden, these nine shows will have your rockin’ around the Christmas tree in style.

Little Dickens: A Christmas Carol

The crew at the Cultch are taking on A Christmas Carol with a big twist! Ronnie Burkett’s hilarious version of the Charles Dickens classic features magic, mayhem, and marionettes in a production that needs to be seen to be believed. Led by Miss Esme Massengill, the grand dame of the Daisy Theatre, this adults-only show is sure to be a raucous treat.

A Jann Arden Christmas with the VSO

The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra plays host to songstress Jann Arden for one night only on December 6. With conductor William Rowson at the helm, the show will feature festive tunes including “Silver Bells” and “It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year”. VSO Subscribers save 15% on this performance and all Special concerts.

Yule Duel

Do you prefer Christmas caroling for a cause? On December 7, dozens of local choirs will perform along the streets of Gastown during Yule Duel 2017. The choirs will compete head-to-head in front of a panel of celebrity judges, and all proceeds from the event will go to May’s Place Hospice in the Downtown Eastside. Attendees are strongly encouraged to sing along (and bring donations)!

Vancouver Men’s Chorus: Making Spirits Bright

One of the most anticipated events taking place during the holidays is Making Spirits Bright, courtesy of the Vancouver Men’s Chorus. As they do each year, the VMC will give audiences a fun take on traditional Christmas tunes while trying to decide if it’s better to make Santa’s “nice” list or his “naughty” one. Tickets for this show are sure to sell out so act fast!

Music for the Winter Solstice

Now in its fourth year, Music on Main is proud to present the beloved Music for the Winter Solstice concert on December 14 & 15. Featuring pianist Rachel Kiyo Iwaasa, vocalists Carman J. Price and Wallgrin, and Composer in Residence Nicole Lizée, the show will have Vancouver audiences celebrating the winter season in style.

Good Tidings! A Good Noise Gospel Christmas

Those of you looking to add a little funk to your festivities are in luck, as the Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir present Good Tidings! A Good Noise Gospel Christmas for two nights in December. This year, the 90-member collective are joining forces with Canadian jazz diva Maureen Washington to deliver holiday favorites infused with blues and swing.

A Baroque Christmas: Bach and More

Always a popular draw, The Vancouver Chamber Choir is celebrating the Christmas season with selections by Bach, Vivaldi, and popular carols that will have audiences singing “Hallelujah!”. This one-night-only production will feature guest conductor John William Trotter and the ensemble’s family of choirs, orchestra, and soloists.

Nativité with musica intima

Juno-nominees musica intima are performing a series of traditional Christmas concerts around Vancouver to celebrate the 15th anniversary of their album Nativité. The show will feature arrangements by former ensemble members Jonathan Quick and Derrick Christian, in addition to seasonal pieces like “Ave Maria” and “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel”.

Christmas Presence

The Pacific Theatre plays host to a number of local musicians this season as Carolyn Arends, Ron Reed, The Tourist Company, and more are teaming up for Christmas Presence 2017. The celebration will be held over five nights in Vancouver with a special show in Abbotsford on Sunday, December 17.
