The Vancouver Canucks are on the hook to shell out some significant dough to two individuals who are no longer with the organization.
One of those individuals is Adam Foote, who was fired from his head coaching duties on Tuesday. The 54-year-old, who lasted just one season in the role, had two more years remaining on his contract worth a total of $3 million. The Canucks will continue to pay him that despite no longer employing him.
Foote has two more years on his Canucks contract paying him $1.5M per season. So Vancouver still owes him that. https://t.co/KAnplNGkuG

This is the course of action anytime a head coach at the NHL level is fired. We just saw a similar situation play out in Edmonton, where the Oilers fired Kris Knoblauch despite the fact that he had a three-year extension set to kick in next season.
What’s different in Vancouver, however, is that Foote isn’t the only recently fired member of the organization who will still be getting paid.
The other is Patrik Allvin, who was fired by the Canucks just over one month ago. The 51-year-old had been considering taking another role within the organization, but ultimately chose to walk away on Wednesday in hopes of pursuing another opportunity elsewhere.
Patrik Allvin is officially leaving the Vancouver Canucks. There was a lingering sense he might consider another role within the organization. Allvin is well respected throughout the hockey community and will have opportunities.

Allvin signed a three-year contract extension with the Canucks midway through the 2023-24 campaign. That deal was set to expire following the 2026-27 season.
The exact dollar amount in Allvin’s contract was unknown, though one can assume it’s at least the same value annually, if not more, than Foote’s deal.
While the search continues for a new head coach in Vancouver, they have shaped out their front office.
Last week, it was officially confirmed that Ryan Johnson will serve as the Canucks’ new GM, while Daniel and Henrik Sedin are the new co-presidents of hockey operations.
While there have been many names speculated on regarding the head coaching vacancy, it is currently sounding like Manny Malhotra is the favourite to land the job.
