Teams from 27 of Vancouver's top brands creating waste reduction solutions

Apr 27 2021, 5:04 pm

This month, 27 teams representing Vancouver’s top brands are coming together to help move the city towards zero waste. And the public is invited to a live-streamed award night in May where the winning solution will be unveiled.

Brand Battle for Good, is a two-part virtual event where participating teams will strategize on solutions to move Vancouver residents toward zero waste. The ideas created during the event in response to the climate emergency have the potential to impact consumer behaviour, local business, municipal government, and technological innovation.

Hosted by volunteer-driven not-for-profit initiative Brands for Better Foundation, the event begins with the Let’s Go Zero Conference on April 28. Attendees of the virtual educational pre-conference and workshops will learn everything about the importance of zero waste from more than 40 subject matter experts.

“Local brands have stepped up to fight for the city where they live and work, and help Vancouver reach its goal of being a zero waste community by 2040,” said Karla Peckett, Creative Director at SOLE/ReCORK and founder of Brands for Better Foundation in a release.

“Brands understand our city, they know what people like and what they don’t, so this presents a big opportunity to utilize their knowledge and experience to help guide the necessary shifts in Vancouver.

The Strategy Hack-a-thon for Good on May 5 is where each brand team will work on new solutions with the goal of winning the collateral support to begin their campaign. Every team will pitch their solution to a panel of judges and the top three ideas will move on to the final round during the Brand Battle for Good Award Night.

Brand Battle for Good Award Night is hosted by emcee Zain Meghi and will spotlight the top three solutions. The event also features live music by The Long War and live mural painting by Jesse Gouchey of Maskwa Murals. The virtual award night on May 5 begins at 6 pm and is open to the public, register here.
