If you’re hoping to enjoy an alcoholic beverage while soaking up the sun at a Vancouver beach this summer, you’re in luck.
After two successful pilot programs in 2023 and 2024, the Vancouver Park Board has approved drinking for adults over 19 at several beaches from the May long weekend until Sept. 30, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The locations include Jericho, Spanish Banks, Locarno Beach, Second Beach (Stanley Park), Kitsilano Beach, John Hendry/Trout Lake Beach, and New Brighton Beach.

“Beachgoers are reminded to avoid entering the water when intoxicated,” stated the Park Board in a release. “We also ask visitors to respect other beach users and help keep greenspaces clean by properly disposing of trash or taking it away with them.”
Visitors who are planning to enjoy a drink (whether alcoholic or not) are being asked to avoid bringing glass bottles, as broken glass can pose a safety risk.
Cans and reusable, plastic, or paper containers are encouraged.
Drinking will not be allowed at English Bay Beach, Sunset Beach Park, and Third Beach (Stanley Park).
Locals are also allowed to drink at 31 Vancouver parks year-round and 16 additional parks from July 1 to Aug. 31 every year.
