Life Sciences and Medicine saw UBC once again named best in the west but far behind the University of Toronto, which was named the best in the country.
UBC ranked 23rd while U of T claimed the 13th spot across nine individual subjects such as medicine, dentistry, and veterinary science.
In the Natural Sciences category, UBC was much closer to its Toronto counterpart, ranking 22 and 20, respectively.
Nine individual subjects are featured within the natural sciences subject area, including geography, physics, and mathematics.

UBC Medicine
“This year’s rankings are our biggest yet, with 171 institutions included this year who were not present in the 2024 edition,” said QS World University Rankings.
“Several subjects, including medicine, computer science and information systems, and materials science now feature more ranked institutions than ever before.”
UBC was also recently scored as the world’s fifth most sustainable university, according to QS Quacquarelli Symonds. The post-secondary institution was also named second-best in all of Canada by Times Higher Education (THE), a British magazine specializing in higher education issues.
