B.C. universities featured in new trailer for Hollywood blockbuster

The Vancouver film industry has had a busy year in 2026, and local movie buffs won’t have to wait long to see the city on the big screen, as two local universities are featured in the upcoming film The Social Reckoning.
Eagle-eyed fans spotted the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University in the official teaser trailer released on Wednesday, June 10.
The sequel to three-time Oscar winner The Social Network was filmed throughout Metro Vancouver last fall, with stars Jeremy Allen White and Mikey Madison spotted on sets.

White, best known for his acclaimed work on the FX series The Bear as well as in Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, will portray Jeff Horowitz, an investigative technology reporter.
Madison, who won Best Actress at the 2025 Oscars for her work in Anora, stars as Facebook engineer and whistleblower Frances Haugen.
SFU’s Academic Quadrangle, seen in numerous TV shows and movies filmed in the region throughout the years, is standing in for an office setting in the Aaron Sorkin film.
The building, which was constructed in the ’60s, can be seen right as the viewer gets a good look at Mark Zuckerberg, portrayed by Jeremy Strong.

UBC also gets the movie treatment as the Alma Mater Society (AMS) Nest is featured in the teaser trailer.
The AMS Nest, which officially opened in 2015, appears to be an operations room for Zuckerberg.
The Social Reckoning is described as a companion piece to The Social Network and is inspired by the true story of how a Facebook engineer worked with a Wall Street Journal reporter to uncover Facebook’s most protected secrets.
Production of The Social Reckoning took over a section of English Bay Beach last fall with a Caribbean bar set, complete with “a vacation-type atmosphere.”
Also spotted on set were stars White and Madison doing their best to stay warm during the spring break scene during the chilly November weather in Vancouver.

White also recently made a stop at “Vancouver’s best oyster bar,” delighting the staff at Vancouver steak and seafood restaurant Joe Fortes.
