Summer is just around the corner, and Canadians who are hoping to hit the road are looking at Vancouver when planning travel closer to home.

Vancouver just ranked among the most popular summer travel destinations, according to Skyscanner’s latest Smarter Summer Report.

It placed third on the travel search engine’s top 10 destinations Canadians are searching for most, beating out tourism heavyweights like Paris and Rome.

However, Vancouver was topped by two other Canadian cities on the list.

“Some places are popular for a reason,” said Skyscanner in its report. “These are seeing high interest, loved for their standout sights and all-around vacation appeal.”

Toronto and Calgary ranked first and second, respectively, on the Smarter Summer Report list of most popular destinations, with Vancouver making it a Canadian sweep on the podium.

Rounding out the top five were Paris and Tokyo. Montreal also cracked the top 10 in the eighth spot.

Skyscanner also shared several suggestions to help make travel more affordable. The company says that being flexible in both destinations and travel dates can make a major difference when it comes to saving money.

“Timing can make all the difference,” the company explained in its report.

“June and September are summer’s quieter overachievers. You still get the sunshine, but with lower prices, shorter lines and a much easier shot at that dinner reservation. It’s the best of summer, with a bit more breathing room.”

For those planning travel to Vancouver, Skyscanner identifies the cheapest week to travel as Aug. 31 to Sept. 6, and the cheapest day of the week to travel is Friday.
