Yesterday was a tragic day for some who were near Tsawwassen Mills Mall, when a car struck four pedestrians, killing two.

Today we’re learning more from the Delta Police Department, including the fact that two people are still in critical condition.

Two of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene; the other two were airlifted to the hospital. Delta Police says the identities of the deceased will not be revealed, as investigators are continuing to work with the BC Coroners Service and supporting families affected by the Tsawwassen tragedy.

Delta Police is reiterating that there is no information to suggest the collision was intentional. Still, they also haven’t yet confirmed that the medical emergency the driver experienced was a contributing factor, as investigators continue to look into the incident.

Investigators have gathered statements from witnesses and reviewed surveillance footage. They also examined information related to the incident. The investigation is being led by the Delta Police Traffic Collision Team.

Delta Police says that while the collision was not related to the Truth and Reconciliation Walk that was taking place nearby, the area where the collision occurred was scheduled to host a House Post unveiling, which was set to take place after the walk.

While some individuals were present and preparing for the ceremony, Delta Police says there’s no information to suggest a connection between the collision and the event.

“We recognize the profound impact this incident has had on the victims, their families, witnesses, first responders and our entire community,” said Staff Sergeant Mike Whiteley, media relations officer for Delta Police, in a statement.

“Our investigators are working diligently to determine exactly what occurred and to conduct a thorough investigation into all of the circumstances surrounding this collision,” he added.

Delta Police is also recognizing the actions of witnesses and B.C. emergency responders, including firefighters and police officers.

Investigators are still looking for more information, and anyone who might have cellphone, surveillance, or dashcam footage is asked to call 604-946-4444 referencing file number 26-18401.
