Second major Vancouver pedestrian collision in a month leaves one dead
An early morning collision involving a pedestrian in Vancouver’s Oakridge neighbourhood has left one person dead, and police are now looking for witnesses.
According to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), the pedestrian fatality occurred at Granville Street and West 52nd Avenue on Monday, Sept. 28, around 1:10 a.m.
“The 27-year-old man was struck crossing the street,” said VPD in a release. “He was treated at the scene and later died in hospital.”

While the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, police are asking for the public’s help in determining what happened during the incident.
“Witnesses and anyone with CCTV or dash-cam footage from Granville Street between West 41st Avenue and West 52nd Avenue are asked to contact the Vancouver Police Collision Investigation Unit at 604-717-3012 or by e-mail at vpdciu@vpd.ca.”
This is the second major pedestrian collision occurring in Vancouver in just over a month that police are seeking witnesses for.
On Friday, Aug. 21, around 9:30 p.m., a 23-year-old woman was crossing at the intersection of Davie and Pacific Boulevard when she was hit by a blue sedan.
According to police, the driver did not remain at the scene of the collision and was last spotted driving eastbound on Pacific Boulevard from Davie Street.

The pedestrian was brought to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“We believe there are several witnesses in the area who might have seen what happened,” said VPD Constable Darren Wong in a statement.
“We are asking them or anyone with dash-cam footage from the area to contact police.”
