A situation is unfolding on Tsawwassen First Nation (TFN) land that has caused a nearby Truth and Reconciliation Day event to end early.
While details are scarce at the moment, what we do know is that the driver of a vehicle experienced an apparent medical incident and that, according to the Delta Police Department, four pedestrians were struck in a collision.
The pedestrians who were struck were being treated by emergency health services. Tragically, two have died.
The incident occurred in the parking lot at Tsawwassen Mills at around 10:25 a.m.
Members of the public are asked to avoid the area.
Some social media users initially speculated that the incident was an attack targeting participants in the nearby Truth and Reconciliation Day walk. However, Delta Police have confirmed that it was unrelated to the event.
“The incident is not related to the Truth and Reconciliation Walk that was taking place on Tsawwassen First Nation lands at the time. There is no ongoing risk to public safety,” state police.
Many were first notified of the incident through the Alertable app, and Emergency Info BC has also shared some information. The app described the incident as a “civil emergency.”

On social media, people in the area have reported seeing a large emergency response, including multiple ambulances and a helicopter.
“If you are not in the area, avoid the area. Have a plan to check in on family, friends and vulnerable neighbours,” reads a statement from Tsawwassen First Nation.
“Out of respect for Tsawwassen First Nation families and ongoing response efforts, we will not be providing additional details at this time. Further information will be shared when appropriate,” the First Nation said.
“Tsawwassen First Nation extends its sincere gratitude to the Delta Police Department, emergency responders, and community members who assisted during the incident.”
