7 Truth and Reconciliation Day events to check out in Metro Vancouver
Canada is commemorating its sixth Truth and Reconciliation Day on Sept. 30, and many thought-provoking events are happening in Metro Vancouver to observe the federal statutory holiday.
From insightful workshops to community gatherings and more, here are seven National Day for Truth and Reconciliation events to check out this year. Don’t forget to wear your orange T-shirts.
Semiahmoo First Nation’s 6th Annual Walk for Truth & Reconciliation
What: Semiahmoo First Nation welcomes the community to its Walk for Truth & Reconciliation at Semiahmoo Park.
Highlights include live performances, family-friendly activities, a complimentary lunch, several exhibitions, and an Indigenous artisan market. Orange shirts will also be sold before the walk.
When: Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026
Time: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: Semihamoo Park. The walk begins in the parking lot adjacent to Grand Chief Bernard Robert Charles Plaza at 15393 Marine Dr., White Rock

Truth & Reconciliation Day at MONOVA: Museum of North Vancouver
What: The Museum and Archives of North Vancouver invites guests of all ages to reflect on Indigenous histories and cultures on the North Shore and across Canada, led by MONOVA’s Indigenous cultural programmers, Jordan Dawson and Tsawaysia Spukwus. There will be hands-on crafts and activities to help inspire dialogue for families.
Admission to MONOVA will also be pay-what-you-can on Truth and Reconciliation Day.

What: There are many Indigenous artworks to be found all over Vancouver, and each one has an important story to tell.
Some of the most thought-provoking pieces that can be seen throughout the traditional unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations are the dozens of Indigenous murals. Many of which were created for the Vancouver Mural Festival (VMF).

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation at Noons Creek Hatchery
What: Noons Creek Hatchery in Port Moody invites the community to learn about Truth and Reconciliation on Wednesday, Sept. 30. This year’s guest speaker is Ed Hall from Kwikwetlem First Nations.

Truth and Reconciliation Free Film Screening
What: Trout Lake Community Centre is hosting a free public screening of two National Film Board of Canada documentaries that explore Indigenous history, identity, and resilience.
The event features Siksikakowan: The Blackfoot Man by director Sinakson Trevor Solway, and Mary Two-Axe Earley: I Am Indian Again by director Courtney Montour.

Intergenerational March to Commemorate Orange Shirt Day
What: An Intergenerational March commemorating Orange Shirt Day is taking place at UBC to honour Residential School Survivors and their families. Attendees will also learn about the impacts of colonial policies, intergenerational trauma, and Indigenous resilience during the event hosted by the Faculties of Land and Food Systems and Forestry & Environmental Stewardship.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in New Westminster

What: Indigenous non-profit Spirit of the Children Society hosts a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in New Westminster. The event will honour survivors and families and celebrate culture and identity while offering speakers, food, dance, crafts, and more to guests.

Empowering Voices through Art: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
What: Indigenous artists and facilitators host a free, inclusive workshop at Place des Arts on National Truth and Reconciliation Day.
Artists will share personal stories, reflect on their journeys, and showcase their acclaimed works. Coquitlam Public Library will be on-site showcasing books from its Indigenous Collections and leading a small craft activity.
