A man in his 40s is facing charges after a triple stabbing that started with a fight in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.

Police say a man and a woman were in an altercation around 2 am Wednesday morning near East Hastings and Carrall streets when two bystanders tried to intervene.

The man involved in the fight stabbed the three others and fled the scene, according to the VPD.

A 45-year-old man was arrested a short time later, about a block away.

Victims include two women in their 30s who suffered minor injuries and a man in his 30s.  All were taken to hospital, but the man’s injuries are considered the most serious, although they are not considered life-threatening.

The VPD says the original fight was not random and the man and woman involved are known to each other.

Sgt. Jason Robillard said that charges are expected to be sworn against the suspect, who remains in custody.
