Summer has arrived at the Tri-Cities, so get outside and enjoy! Pints & Paws, Golden Spike Days Festival, and more, here are 10 things to do around Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, and Port Moody this June.

Pints & Paws

What: An annual pub night in support of the BC SPCA Tri-Cities Education & Adoption Centre, Join fellow animal lovers at Pints & Paws for a great meal and a drink at the John B Neighbourhood Pub in Coquitlam. There will be a silent auction along with fun games and activities. Tickets are $25 each and include your choice of a vegan, veggie or fish burger with fries and a beer, highball or glass of wine plus a chance to take home some wonderful prizes. All proceeds from Pints & Paws support abandoned, neglected or abused animals in the care of the BC SPCA Tri-Cities Education & Adoption Centre.

Port Moody Children’s Art Festival

What: Featuring over 400 mixed media, oil paintings and drawings, and 150 young artists. There will also be live art demonstrations on June 8 from 9 am to 4 pm

Festival Coquitlam’s Grand Parade and Teddy Bear Picnic

What: Bring your teddy bears to watch as the parade marches up to the Teddy Bear Picnic at Town Centre Park. Then join in the teddy bear picnic, featuring storytelling, puppet shows, rovers, gymnastics and more. Fun for all young children.

Tri-Cities Pride Society Pub Night

What: Tri-Cities Pride facilitates monthly pub nights. Locations rotate between Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody. This is a chance to connect with other LGBTQ2+ folks in a safe and inclusive environment.

The 88th BC Highland Games and Scottish Festival

What: The 88th annual BC Highland Games & Scottish Festival features a Friday night beer garden with live Celtic music, a kilted/tartan run, and open pro piobaireachd. Then enjoy a full day on Saturday with piping, dancing, caber tossing, live Celtic music, kids activities, artisans, food and the massed pipe bands.

When: Friday, June 14 to Saturday, June 15, 2019

Lafarge Lake Annual Free Fishing Day

What: A free family-friendly day of fishy fun and prizes during BC’s free fishing weekend – when anglers can fish BC’s waters without a licence. The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC will be stocking the lake with rainbow trout in the morning, kids are welcome to assist the hatchery staff during the stocking. There will be a netted area for new fishermen who have no experiences in catching trout. Experts will be on site to teach participants new techniques on catching rainbow trout. Other activities include fly tying, casting lessons and salmon raffle. Some fantastic prizes will be given away at the end of the event.

Newfoundland Kitchen Party

What: Experience a traditional East Coast style lobster dinner without leaving the West Coast. Traditional maritime music will be performed by the band the Navvies. Beers from local breweries will be available for purchase and coolers for those that do not like beer. There will also be hot dog dinners for guests that do not want a lobster.

Tri-Cities Poetry/Open Mic with feature poet Susan McCaslin

What: Western Sky Books hosts local poets for a Poetry Slam and Open Mic night. All styles and genres are welcome. Poets are welcome to bring their books and chapbooks or zines for sale. The June edition of Tri-Cities Poetry/Open Mic features local poet Susan McCaslin. Open Mic starts at 6:45 pm.

What: The Golden Spike Days Festival is one of the oldest and longest running family events in BC. The festival is held at Rocky Point Park around Canada Day, attracting upwards of 40,000 people of all walks of life with live entertainment, special events and activities for all ages.
