TransLink adds 7 pm SkyTrain "applause announcement" for healthcare workers

Apr 2 2020, 7:36 pm

Those who are still riding SkyTrain during these uncertain times may have noticed a new special voice announcement that is played nightly at 7 pm to acknowledge the ongoing efforts of healthcare workers and frontline staff.

This, of course, coincides with the new nightly tradition of residents across the region emerging out of their balconies to applaud and cheer on all frontline staff — and the announcement encourages train passengers to do the same.

“It’s 7 pm. Let’s put our hands together and make some noise for everyone out there on the front lines. Thank you for everything you are doing to keep us safe and healthy. Let’s give them all a big round of applause!”

According to TransLink’s The Buzzer, the announcement is played on all trains on the Expo Line, Millennium Line, and Canada Line.

Many healthcare workers, grocery store staff, and other frontline and essential workers still rely on the public transit system to get to and from their place of work.
