New TransLink etiquette video will have you rethinking your transit manners

Sep 8 2025, 2:00 pm

An 18-second TransLink video about basic etiquette is getting a lot of attention online and sparking a lively debate about how people behave on transit.

The clip shows a passenger standing up and offering his seat to a young woman, who smiles and thanks him before sitting down. It also flashes through other simple etiquette reminders, including taking off your backpack on a crowded train, putting in your headphones instead of using a speaker, and keeping bags out of the way so aisles stay clear.

Over it all plays Kris Jenner’s now-famous line, “you’re doing amazing sweetie,” an audio clip fans will recognize from the Kardashians’ viral meme moments that’s been recycled countless times on TikTok.

TransLink posted it with the caption, “You LOVE to see it!” and the internet clearly agreed.

Thor Diakow, senior media relations advisor at TransLink, told Daily Hive the moment wasn’t random.

“It was staged, shot, and edited in-house last September,” he said. “It was reposted this year for a back-to-school reminder as part of our Fall Service Changes.”

The video has garnered thousands of views across TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram.

While some people praised the simple acts of courtesy, others quickly jumped into the comments to vent about their biggest pet peeves on transit.

Complaints ranged from riders blocking doors and leaving backpacks on their shoulders to not giving up priority seats for seniors.

“Too bad this doesn’t happen more often. Nobody waits to let others off before they enter,” one commenter wrote.

TransLink said that the agency uses videos like this to remind people of the basics.

Bags, for example, should be placed on your lap or the floor, “where [they] will not obstruct the aisles or other customers.”

And riders can expect more to come.

“We will be launching a new safety campaign this fall and a new etiquette campaign in the future, so stay tuned!” added Diakow.

A bigger etiquette conversation

Transit etiquette is a topic that always gets Metro Vancouver riders fired up.

Daily Hive has previously published a guide to Vancouver transit rules, which includes simple courtesies like wearing deodorant to keeping conversations to an appropriate volume.

That list garnered quite a few responses because, as anyone who commutes regularly knows, small breaches of courtesy can turn a crowded bus or train into a frustrating ride.

The viral TransLink video serves as a reminder that the reverse is also true: even the simplest gestures, like offering up your seat, can brighten someone’s day and make transit a little more bearable.

For now, one short clip has Metro Vancouver talking again, and maybe even thinking twice about how we share space on the SkyTrain or bus.
