Elderly couple killed in morning train collision in Langley

An elderly couple passed away after an early morning train collision that took place in Langley.

At 9:40 am, Langley RCMP received several reports of a vehicle left on the train tracks.

An older model Toyota was stopped on the Langley Bypass and Glover Road. The car was stopped on the tracks, prior the arm coming down on the crossing.

The vehicle was hit from the passenger-side by a westbound moving train. According to Watch Commander David Brown, the car was pushed for nearly a kilometre down the train tracks.

Upon locating the vehicle, officers discovered an older couple in medical distress.

Life-saving measures, including CPR, were taken, however, the individuals passed away at the scene.

Brown explains that the incident is still under investigation. Railway staff, the RCMP’s Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (iCARS), and coroners are currently on scene.
