Tim Hortons' first-ever cup-less RRRoll Up The Rim To Win begins today

Get your proverbial thumbs ready, Canada, because RRRoll Up The Rim To Win is coming back.

And it’s going to be a little different this year.

Kicking off today, March 11, Tim Hortons’ infamous annual contest returns until April 7, and this time around, the fun will be offered in a digital-only format.

While the initial plan for this year’s Roll Up The Rim was for the contest to begin with the use of physical cups for the first two weeks, and a transition into exclusively digital play for the last two weeks, COVID-19 fears have changed the game — literally.

The company recently announced it won’t offer physical cups at all this year, due to the risk of infection facing staff who handle tabs that have been in customersā€™ mouths.

ā€œTim Hortons is eliminating paper Roll Up The Rim cups due to the current public health environment and redistributing all $30 million of prizes to restaurant giveaways and the digital Roll Up The Rim contest,ā€ the company said in a statement on Saturday.

Instead, you’ll be able to play onlineĀ or through the Tim Hortons app. Tims Rewards members who scan their card or app when ordering a hot drink will receive a digital roll in the Tim Hortons app or online.

For those who don’t have a rewards card yet, non-registered cards can be scanned and the rolls will accumulate for access when the card is registered. Unregistered Tims Rewards members have until April 21 to register their card to be able to reveal digital rolls.

Prizes up for grabs this year include over 17 million coffee and food prizes, TVs, gift cards, cars, and four draws of $100,000.
