The first ever professional boxing event in Burnaby is taking place tomorrow night at the Grand Villa Casino.

The Thrilla at the Villa, hosted by Vancouver’s Alliance Boxing Promotions, is a highly anticipated event that will feature professional and amateur athletes from both British Columbia and Mexico.

Professional boxers include BC’s former Super Middleweight Champion JY Kim, Surrey’s own Aman Bisla, and Mexico’s Jose de Jesus “El Changuito” Macias, who has 36 professional boxing fights under his belt.

“Bringing an event like this to Burnaby for the first time is so important for our community and our local athletes,” said Anna Farrant, Co-Founder of Vancouver boxing studio All City Athletics and Co-Founder of Alliance Boxing Promotions alongside Daniel Norman and Ray Savard from Savard Boxing Club.

“Our goal for The Thrilla at the Villa is to help develop local and international boxing champions, as well as allow locals to experience the thrill of live boxing.”

According to a release from event organizers, B.C. continues to become recognized as one of the leading provinces producing Canadian amateur boxers, and events like these provide a long-term platform for local athletes with a goal of going professional.
