Could this be a historic day for Canadian men’s soccer?

Whether it is or not, at least Canadians fans have shown up.

Just before Canada’s FIFA World Cup match versus Qatar, a massive swath of red was seen marching to watch the action at BC Place.

The march was passing by Science World, which was recently converted into a giant soccer ball, on the way to FIFA’s entrance for the match.

Canada can expect a friendly crowd as they attempt to win their first-ever game at a FIFA Men’s World Cup. The stadium is unsurprisingly expected to be largely Canadian, aside from about 1,000 Qatar fans who were given free transportation and accommodation for the match.

Even among the Qatar contingent, however, some Canadians fans were able to scoop up those tickets rather easily.

A win for Canada would largely cement their place in the Round of 32, after Bosnia and Herzegovina lost 4-1 to Switzerland earlier in the day. Before that match, all teams were tied with one point.

However, Qatar cannot be taken lightly, as they were able to get a draw against Switzerland with a goal from Miro Muheim in the 94th minute.

BC Place is expected to be a sellout, which was announced as 52,497 fans during Vancouver’s first FIFA men’s World Cup match last Saturday between Australia and Turkiye.
