The stage is set as Vancouver gets ready to welcome the world.

The FIFA World Cup begins June 11, with Vancouver kicking off the first of seven matches at BC Place two days later.

Those matches will bring a tremendous amount of attention to the city.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has said that the World Cup will be like hosting 104 Super Bowls in one month.

So, seven Super Bowls for Vancouver?

Not exactly, but the television numbers are enormous.

Television audiences averaged 148 million viewers for group-stage matches at Qatar 2022. Round of 16 matches averaged 199 million.

By comparison, Super Bowl LX drew 125 million viewers in the United States earlier this year, but that doesn’t include international viewership.

BC Place will host five group stage matches and two in the knockout round.

Canada will feature in two of the Vancouver matches in the group stage, and possibly in the Round of 32 and Round of 16, but that requires finishing ahead of Switzerland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Qatar in Group B.

There’s a chance that Ronaldo could play in Vancouver on July 7, but that requires Portugal winning Group K and their first knockout round game.

Here’s the list of games that will be played at BC Place in Vancouver during the FIFA World Cup (local time listed):

  • Saturday, June 13: Australia vs. TĂźrkiye (9 p.m.)
