Vancouver Police have arrested and charged 39-year-old Braidy Holt with possession of stolen property, possession of break-in instruments, and carrying a concealed weapon, after a collection of tools were stolen from a vehicle this week.

Police said that in the lead up to Holt’s arrest, officers worked with the property owner and posed as potential buyers to arrange to meet the alleged thief.

“Once the man showed up with the stolen goods, he was arrested by plain-clothes officers,” police said.

The tools were returned to their rightful owner after having been stolen from a vehicle in East Vancouver during the overnight hours between August 13 and 14.

“The owner of the stolen property in this case had taken the time to write on his property which made it possible to identify the stolen goods and return them,” said VPD Sgt. Jason Robillard. “Theft from auto continues to be a problem in Vancouver.”

As such, Robillard said that police are reminding people that “if anything is left visible in a parked vehicle, it could be enough to tempt a thief.”

Anyone who witnesses a theft is reminded to call 911.
