Top Vancouver burrito spot celebrates 17 years of success with opening of new Tofino location
While Tacofino has become synonymous with Vancouver’s taco and burrito scene, its roots date back to 2009 with the opening of its food truck (dubbed the “Cantina”) in Tofino. Now, 17 years later, the team is looking back on an incredible, burrito-fueled run with the opening of its first brick-and-mortar location back where everything started.
Tacofino shared that the new location, found at 450 Campbell St., Tofino, is a “thoughtful next step in the place where it first began.”
“For years, Tacofino has been part of the daily rhythm of Tofino. What started from the back of the Live to Surf shop parking lot grew into something much bigger, shaped by locals, visitors, and the pace of life on the coast,” Tacofino shared with Dished.

The taco shop also said that the new, permanent location is a direct response to the demand that the original Tacofino food truck sees year after year. It will feature the largest kitchen in the Tacofino family, designed to improve flow and consistency while leaving room for menu experimentation as well.
“The new space also opens the door for what’s next. With more room to work, the team has the flexibility to introduce new menu items while staying grounded in the flavours people know and love,” added Tacofino.
Patrons can expect to find a mix of Tacofino classics (think fish tacos, crispy chicken burritos, gringas, and more), while also including other fan-favourites not found at the food truck, including nachos alongside vegan and vegetarian options.

However, while this new location is a step forward for the brand, Tacofino shared that it’s more about building on what has always worked: serving Tofino with greater capacity while staying rooted in the community that built it.
This new store — expected to open this spring — will mark its 12th location in B.C., not counting its fleet of roaming food trucks.
And don’t worry, the original Tofino food truck isn’t going anywhere either.
