Mounties are investigating after a house under construction in Surrey caught fire over the long weekend and the flames spread to the two homes beside it.

The families in the two adjacent homes had to be evacuated, and everyone made it out safe, according to a news release from Sgt. Ray Monsef with the Surrey RCMP.

“The home that caught fire was under construction and was unoccupied at the time,” the release said. “The immediate two neighbouring houses affected by fire will remain evacuated for the time being.”

The blaze started around 11:30 am on Sunday in the 7900 block of 126A Street. Police closed 80th Avenue between 125th and 128th streets while officers investigated.
