A man was arrested earlier this month after he allegedly robbed a West Vancouver home, put the stolen goods in a suitcase, and tried to transport them on the bus.

A police officer saw the man board a bus at Park Royal mall on November 14 without paying his fare. After talking with him, the officer formed a “suspicion that the man may not have been in lawful possession of the luggage,” according to a news release.

After asking the man some more questions, the West Vancouver Police Department sent officers to a nearby home and confirmed it had been broken into.

Police arrested the man and found several stolen household items and electronics inside the suitcase.

According to a news release, officers believe they intercepted the man “moments” after the items were stolen.

“A job well-done by everyone involved,” Const. Kevin Goodmurphy said in a news release. “This officer was in the right place at the right time and demonstrated great proactive investigative skills.”

Cesar Lopez, 36, of no fixed address, is facing charges related to possessing property obtained by a crime and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
