Driver dies after hitting lamp post in South Vancouver

Police are investigating after a fatal, single-vehicle crash that took place in South Vancouver.

According to a release from the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), the incident took place in South Vancouver’s Marpole neighbourhood, at approximately 8:45 pm Monday.

“The driver was heading west on North Kent Avenue, when, for unknown reasons, his vehicle struck a lamp post,” says VPD.

Police officers, as well as ambulance and fire rescue crews,  responded to the crash, but unfortunately, the 59-year-old Vancouver man who was at the wheel passed away at the scene.

Investigators from the VPD’s Collision Investigation Unit are now working to determine what caused the collision.

Although the investigation is in the early stages, police believe that medical distress could be a factor.

This is Vancouver’s 11th motor vehicle fatality of 2019.
