A music video for a song called “Maple Ridge,” created by tattoo artist (and perhaps burgeoning rap artist) Alex Rousey, is gaining attention this summer.
If you’re a fan of Lil Dicky, and you’re from Metro Vancouver, you’ll probably love this music video as much as we did.
Whether you love to see someone dangling from the Office Pub Liquor store on Dewdney Trunk Road or live for the shoutout to Roosters country bar, here are four reasons why “Maple Ridge” has earned its spot on our summer playlists:
The tattoo

When Rousey said, “It’s Maple Ridge ’til I die, imma get that tattooed on my thigh,” he really did. We admire this dedication to one’s craft and message.
The horse clock

The Beast Horse Clock outside Maple Ridge City Council Chambers on Dewdney Trunk Road has been iconic since it was erected in 1989. Though a fun horsey doesn’t pop out of the top anymore, partly because it was “considered to be a liability,” according to the City.
The float

When Rousey says, “floating down Alouette river non-stop, hit the rocks, and I lost my flip flop,” we felt that. The very popular river float has claimed many a flip-flop over the summers. Make sure to check out our tips for floating the Alouette.
The hair

We are 99% certain that Rousey is wearing a wig, but the way he looks a bit like Guns’N Roses guitarist Slash makes us wish it were real.
