Jersey tosses onto the ice can sometimes be overly dramatic.
But the latest one thrown on the ice at Rogers Arena on Thursday night was understandable.
In their last home game before the Christmas break, the Vancouver Canucks lost 3-2 to the Buffalo Sabres.
Sure, they may have outplayed the lowly Sabres, but that’s hardly inspiring any hope in this fan base.
Instead, frustration appears to be taking over.

This has been a recurring theme for the Canucks throughout the 2020s.
It started at the end of the Jim Benning era, when a jersey toss occurred after a loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Benning and Travis Green were fired the next day.
AnotherĀ Canucks jersey was thrown onto the ice just over a year later,Ā in December 2022. Head coach Bruce Boudreau was canned a month later.
Someone even threw a jersey on the ice last season after the Canucks were spanked on home ice by the Edmonton Oilers. While it seemed a little overly dramatic at the time, in hindsight, it was a sign of things to come.
Last night’s jersey toss might have been the most comprehensible of them all.

The Canucks are dead last in the NHL. It appears as though even the Benning-led Canucks never sank that low at any point in his tenure.
They’re also 4-10-1 on home ice at Rogers Arena after this latest loss. Dating back to last season, they’ve won just 21 of their last 56 home games.
“There’s no sugar coating it, it’s no fun when you’re not winning games,” Thatcher Demko said following the Canucks loss to Buffalo.
Quinn Hughes said before the season that the 2024-25 campaign was no fun. It’s hard to imagine that anyone in the Canucks organization, or anyone watching this team, is having any fun right now.
