17 shots of last night's smoky sunset in Vancouver (PHOTOS)

People across the Lower Mainland cast their eyes skywards yesterday to get a glimpse of that eerily red sun as it set to the west.

The strange colouring comes about from the fine particulate matter in Vancouver’s air—a grim reminder of the forest fires that continue to rage through BC’s interior.

An air quality advisory is in effect throughout the Lower Mainland as we can expect to see smoky skies for the next few days.

While last night’s sunset didn’t feature the pinks and oranges that usually paint the clouds above the Pacific Ocean, it was still quite the sight to see.
